Description

Albino koi guppies carry a striking solid orange red colour across the entire body, paired with the pale red eyes that give every albino strain its name, a lack of dark pigment that also means these fish carry no black markings anywhere on the body or fins. On this particular fish, that solid colour extends into a ribbon style tail, with the caudal fin rays growing out as separate trailing strands rather than closing into one connected fan.

The ribbon trait shows up clearly here, each ray of the caudal fin visible as its own individual strand of orange red colour rather than blending into a solid sheet, giving the tail a wispy, flowing look when the fish swims or flares its fin during a display. It is a more delicate looking tail than a standard guppy carries, and one that tends to draw attention specifically because of how the separated rays move independently in the water.

The pectoral fins, often called the ear fins on this style of koi guppy, carry the same vivid orange red as the rest of the body, extending the solid colour theme from head to tail with no interruption or secondary colour anywhere on the fish. Females are rounder bodied as guppy females are, and while they carry a similar orange red base tone, their tails stay a standard solid shape rather than showing the ribbon trait, which is a male only feature in this strain.

Ribbon tails need a bit more care in tank setup than a standard tail would, since the separated rays are thinner and more prone to snagging on rough decor. A bare bottom tank or one with fine sand substrate is safer than coarse gravel, and a sponge filter running gentle flow protects the fin further by avoiding the pull of a stronger power filter intake.

Tankmates should stay firmly on the peaceful side, other peaceful livebearers, small tetras and corydoras all make sensible choices, while fin nipping species should be avoided entirely given how easily a ribbon tail can be damaged. Feeding a varied diet of quality flake or micro pellets daily, with live or frozen baby brine shrimp added a few times a week, supports healthy growth and helps that orange red colour stay vivid and saturated.

As livebearers, guppies produce broods of fully formed, free swimming fry roughly every four weeks once a pair settles into stable water, with no egg laying involved. Sold as a breeding pair.

Because albino strains lack dark pigment entirely, they can be a touch more sensitive to very bright direct lighting than normally pigmented guppies, so a tank with moderate rather than intense lighting tends to suit them well and helps avoid any unnecessary stress. Water quality still matters just as much here as with any other strain, and a steady routine of weekly partial water changes around twenty five percent, combined with reliable filtration, helps this fish maintain its vivid orange red colour and keeps the delicate ribbon tail rays looking clean and undamaged over time.
