Classic Guppy is a small home breeding setup in Ambegaon Pathar, Pune. We keep a handful of strains at a time, grow them out ourselves, and sell them as young adult pairs. Nothing on this page is bought in bulk from a wholesaler and flipped the same week.
If you are in Pune, there are two ways to get fish from us. If the strain is in stock we deliver anywhere in the city within 24 hours, or you can collect the pair from us yourself. Both are explained below.
Tell us who you are and which strain you want. We reply on WhatsApp with a collection time for Ambegaon Pathar, usually the same day. Check the shop page first to see what is in stock right now.
A guppy from a street aquarium in Pune costs forty rupees. Ours start at two hundred. The gap is not branding, it is eight months of feeding, culling and tank space that happens before the fish is ever listed. Here is exactly what you are paying for.
Colour, body depth and fin size in a guppy are decided in the first two months. A fry raised on crushed flake never catches up, whatever you feed it afterwards. Ours hatch and go straight onto live baby brine shrimp, hatched fresh here every day, then move on to Otohime and NRD as they grow out. Both are imported feeds and both cost several times what local flake costs.
Every fish is looked at on its own before it goes into a bag. A split caudal, a clamped dorsal, a nipped edge or a bent spine means the fish does not ship, even if it is the last one of that strain and someone is waiting on it. We would rather ask you to wait a week than send a pair that disappoints you the moment the bag opens.

Most sellers ship the biggest fish they have because it looks impressive in the bag. We do the opposite, on purpose.
A juvenile has not locked into any particular water yet, so it adapts to yours instead of fighting it. A full grown adult that has spent eight months in our parameters sulks for a week in yours, and that first week is when almost all losses happen. Juveniles also travel lighter, foul the bag more slowly, and colour up in front of you over the next two months, which is half the pleasure of keeping them.
Every price below is for one pair, meaning one male and one female of the same strain. Tap a name to see photographs of the actual parent fish rather than a stock image.

Stock moves week to week because we only list what has already grown out. If a strain shows as sold out, message us and we will tell you when the next batch is close.
If the strain is in stock, Pune orders are delivered within 24 hours. Order before 11:30 AM and it reaches you the same day; order after 11:30 AM and it goes out the next day, because every fish is conditioned before it travels. Before we pack, we fix a delivery window with you on WhatsApp, because a bagged fish should not sit around waiting for someone to be home. The pair travels in a breather bag with fresh water and oxygen, inside an insulated box.
If you live outside the city limits, tell us your area when you order and we will confirm whether it falls inside the 24-hour run or goes by courier instead.
You are welcome to collect the fish in person. We are at Raje Chowk, near Pawar College, Ambegaon Pathar, Pune 411046. Message us first and we will fix a time. That way your pair is bagged and settled when you arrive instead of being chased around a tank while you wait.
Coming over is also the easiest way to see the parent stock, ask about a line you are thinking of starting, and pick your own male if two look similar in the photos.
Packing is where most online fish orders are actually lost, and it is the part nobody photographs. Bag size matters as much as anything in it. Too small and ammonia builds before the box arrives, too large and the fish gets thrown around every time the carton is handled.
Most guppies bought locally in India die inside six months, and people assume that is just how guppies are. It is not. A well bred guppy on steady water and proper food lives around two years, and ours regularly do. The strain matters, but husbandry matters more, and that is the part you control.
Steady temperature rather than a perfect number. Small regular water changes rather than one big one. Food with real protein in it. Not overstocking. Not medicating on a guess. Follow the guides below and two years is realistic, not optimistic.
Guppies are forgiving fish, but the first week after a move is when most of them are lost. Two things cause it: a rushed acclimatisation, and a tank that swings in temperature. Neither is hard to avoid.
Float the sealed bag in your tank for about twenty minutes so the temperatures match. Then open it and add a small cup of your tank water every ten minutes for the next half hour. Net the fish across into the tank and throw the bag water away. Leave the light off for the rest of the day and skip feeding until the next morning.
Indoor tanks in Pune can sit above 30 degrees through the hot months. Guppies survive it, but they eat more, foul the water faster and age quicker. A small fan blowing across the surface drops a couple of degrees, and dropping the water level slightly increases surface movement. Feed a little less and change water a little more often.
Early mornings get cold enough that an unheated tank drifts down towards 20 degrees. The adults will be fine, but the females stop dropping fry and colour fades on the males. If you want fry through winter, a 25 watt heater set to 26 degrees is enough for a standard one foot tank.
The problem in the rains is not the water, it is the swing between a warm afternoon and a cold night with the windows open. Move the tank away from an open window and the swing mostly disappears.
Most Pune homes are on either the municipal supply or a society borewell. Borewell water is usually harder, and guppies actually prefer that, so hardness is rarely the issue. Chlorine is. Let fresh water stand overnight in a bucket, or use a dechlorinator, before it goes anywhere near the tank.
If you want the longer version, our guppy care guide and the note on preparing water cover it properly.
Buying the fish is the easy part. The questions start about four days later, and that is when most sellers stop replying. Message us on WhatsApp any time about your tank and we will answer, whether it is a week after delivery or a year later. There is no charge and you do not have to buy anything.
We have covered this from A to Z on the blog, so you are not left guessing after the box arrives. These are the guides worth reading in your first month.
Whatever you pick, one pair in a one foot tank is plenty to begin with. People usually go wrong by buying six pairs of four strains on day one and then trying to keep track of who came from where.
We ship across India. Delivery takes four to six days depending on where you are, and we can also send the box by train to your nearest station if you would rather collect it yourself. The full terms are on our shipping page, and there is a page written specifically for buyers outside Maharashtra.
We replace it free. The one thing we need is an unedited unboxing video that starts before the bag is opened and shows the fish clearly before anything is taken out. It sounds fussy, but it is the only way to tell a travel loss from something that happened after the fish went into a tank, and it means we can settle a claim in one message instead of ten.
Between ₹200 and ₹500 depending on the strain. The table above lists every price. There is no separate charge for delivery inside Pune city.
Every strain is listed as a pair. A few listings also carry male only and female only options, and those open up whenever we have spares. Ask on WhatsApp if you need a specific one.
Yes. A healthy female usually drops her first batch within a few weeks of settling in. If you want the fry to survive, give them somewhere to hide, either a clump of moss or a floating plant.
A one foot tank holds one pair comfortably. Two feet is better if you plan to keep the fry. Guppies care more about steady water than about volume, so a small tank you actually maintain beats a big one you ignore.
Not for most of the year. From late December through January a small heater keeps breeding going, and that is the only stretch where it makes a real difference.
Live baby brine shrimp from the first week, then Otohime and NRD as they grow. Feeding the same way at home keeps colour and body size where you expect it.

Outside Pune district we ship by courier in four to six days, or by train to your nearest station on request. The details are on the India delivery page.
If the strain you want is sold out, or you are not sure which pair suits your tank, message us. We answer on WhatsApp through the day and we will tell you honestly if something is not ready yet rather than sending you a weak pair.
Prefer to wait for a specific strain? Send us the name and we will message you the day it goes back in stock.
