Grass guppies carry a fine speckled pattern across the caudal that looks like scattered seed on a coloured background. The pattern is genetic but the density improves with size, so a grass male at four months looks completely different from the same fish at two months.Blue grass is the best known of the group and the one most people are looking for when they search for a grass guppy in India. The tail should be broad and even, with the speckling carried right to the edge rather than fading out halfway.We breed our grass line in Pune and grow it out on live baby brine shrimp, Otohime and NRD. Pairs are Rs 350 and ship as juveniles, which means the tail is still filling in when the fish reaches you. Give a pair a one foot tank, keep the water steady, and the pattern will develop over the next two months.
